Iman Shumpert will not protest the national anthem after all. Less than a week after declaring, "You best believe I'm going to take me a knee for the anthem," on his song, "His Story," Shumpert has decided to make a donation to charity for each steal during the 2016-17 NBA season instead.
In light of the recent deaths of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, Shumpert took to Instagram to post a picture of his daughter Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr., and reflect on how these tragic events have impacted his outlook on her life, and future. "Take a good look at my daughter Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. The moment she was born was the day I saw the world a lot different. All day I wonder how can I raise her the right way and teach her the right lessons," Shump said. "I can't explain to her what's going on these days between the badge and the people. The badge was made to protect us, not scare us. #stealthefear #steal🔓fear#weprayforpeace"
Shumpert also explained how he plans to donate a certain amount of money for each steal to a charity that will "improve the struggle between the badge and the citizen," adding he doesn't believe that "taking a knee is the answer."
