Ella Mai opened up in a recent interview with KISS XTRA about her life since welcoming a child with Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum.
Even though she has chosen to keep that part of her life private, Mai was willing to speak about her son, whom she "couldn't imagine my life, now that I have him, without him." While she does not explicitly mention Tatum in the conversation, host DJ Ace asked if Mai foresees her child having a future in the NBA or music.
"It's giving a little bit of both right now," the singer responded. "We might have a little singing hooper on our hands."
Mai was also open to the possibility of her child choosing another path, but admitted he "can hold a little note."
After the USA Men's Basketball Team won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Mai was spotted holding their newborn child in behind-the-scenes footage of the players posing for their portraits. The singer was previously seen with a baby bump, leading to speculation that the private couple were expecting their first child together.
When asked about maintaining her privacy, Mai thought it has not been difficult, saying, "There are cameras everywhere, but if you're intentional with the way that you move, it's not that hard to not be seen."
After taking the stage for the final stop on her Did You Miss Me? Tour tonight in Los Angeles, Mai will focus her attention on her upcoming album Do You Still Love Me?, which is scheduled to be released on Feb. 6.
Mai said, growing up, all she thought about was being an artist, casting aside the idea of marriage or children. "Even when it started to happen for me, I never saw past that," she said. "That was my end goal."
Mai continued, "But now, to see this new journey, and to feel this new journey, and kinda have it coincide with what I’m doing now that I’m back at work, it’s incredible."
