Cowboys Expect Dez Bryant Back Sooner Than You Think

Rejoice, Cowboys fans!

When will Dez Bryant return to the field? After suffering a Jones fracture in the Cowboys' season opener, Bryant's timetable has gone from four to six weeks, to upwards of three months to Falcons wide receiver Roddy White speculating that this injury could put an end to his season.

On Friday, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones appeared on the Ben and Skin show on 105.3 The Fan and threw another wrench into the mix. "At first we thought maybe four to six [weeks] and that changed to six to eight. By the next day we were pretty much thinking six to eight," he said. "We really feel like it's a very fair goal to think that Dez will be back after the bye."

The Cowboys' bye week is on Week 6, meaning Jones is expecting to have Bryant back in four more weeks. Just in time for their road game against the New York Giants. A fitting return date, no?

Following the injury to Tony Romo, it's worth wondering if the Cowboys may be expediting the timetable of Bryant's return to remain competitive in the NFC East. The organization should think of the bigger picture when it comes to Dez. Don't risk long-term problems just to rush him back into pads.
