If history has taught us anything, it’s that Kevin Durant will respond to anyone.
Following the U.S. men’s basketball team’s victory over France in the gold medal game at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Durant took to the platform formerly known as Twitter to share a team photo, along with the caption, "ENTERTAINMENT & IQ."
The post may have seemed innocuous, but there was intention behind it. The now four-time Olympic gold medalist was clearly referencing a comment made by Germany guard and Brooklyn Nets player Dennis Schröder regarding how the European style of basketball would provide an advantage against Team USA.
"European basketball, I think, is more…I got to be careful here," Schröder said. "I think it’s…European basketball is no entertainment. It’s straight IQ basketball, straight coaching, and really, really high IQ guys who know how to play the game."
Considering Durant is the same person who was awake in the early morning hours responding to people on social media after Team USA’s dramatic comeback win against Serbia, it should not come as a shock that he would also engage with Schröder.
Schröder aired out his grievances over Durant’s "ENTERTAINMENT & IQ" post on Twitch, saying KD’s response "tells me how weak he is as a person."
"They won and Kevin Durant tweets, 'High IQ and entertainment.' For me, that's just being weak," he said. "You're that type of a star and you have to say something to a person like me who not even meant it to be negative. It was just what I see from both sides, you know what I'm saying? I didn't appreciate it. I don't care, but at the end of the day, that tweet, or whatever he posted, was because of me. For me, it was never no negative stuff. I respect all of those guys, all GOATs, but to say that tells me how weak he is as a person."
KD will likely catch wind of Schröder’s remark, because the 14-time NBA All-Star finds out about everything and he will almost certainly respond in due time.
