According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to get another scoring threat who can also drain jumpers from downtown and they are looking into the possibility of acquiring the Nets' Joe Johnson. Even though Johnson is set to make $24.9 million next season, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has already shown time and time again that he will spare no expense to make LeBron James happy and put the best talent around his star player.

The Cavaliers may have caught the Nets at the right time, too. Brooklyn is looking to shed payroll and lessen their tax burden. Meanwhile, the Cavs could use Brendan Haywood in a deal. Haywood has a $10.5 nonguaranteed million contract if he is waived before Aug. 1. Another name being tossed around is Anderson Varejao. With the emergence of Timofey Mozgov, the return of Kevin Love and the expected re-signing of Tristan Thompson, Varejao, who will make $9.6 million in 2015, may prove to be the odd man out in the Cavs' frontcourt. However, if the Cavs go through with a trade involving Varejao, they may set themselves up for a push at free agent David West.
