Aaron Hernandez's choice of tattoos may prove to be a confession from the former New England Patriots tight end regarding his involvement in the 2012 double homicide of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Teixeira Furtado, 28.
During the pretrial hearing earlier today, Suffolk First Assistant District Attorney Patrick M. Haggan implored jurors to look into two of Hernandez's tattoos, per the Boston Globe. The first being a revolver loaded with five bullets, which could allude to the five shots allegedly fired by a .38-caliber revolver in Boston's South End where de Abreu and Furtado were killed. The work was done near another piece of ink with the phrase, "God forgives," written backwards.
The other tattoo being looked into is of a semi-automatic handgun with "a spent shell casing and a puff of smoke." Hernandez is accused of shooting former friend, Alexander Bradley, in 2013 while the two sat in a car in Florida. Authorities recovered a single spent shell casing from a semi-automatic handgun. Prosecutors believe Hernandez visited a tattoo artist in Hermosa Beach, California in late March or early April 2013, just a month or two after allegedly shooting Bradley.
From this latest information brought forth by prosecutors to a man named Raychides Sanches, who survived the 2012 drive-by shooting and who identified Hernandez as the shooter during the incident, it looks like the 27-year-old will have one tough hill to climb in order to prove his innocence. The trial date has been set for Feb. 13, 2017.
