Baltimore Ravens kicker Tyler Loop effectively ended the team's season on January 4 by missing an epic 44-yard field goal. And fans aren't happy about it.
According to The New York Post, the online hate has targeted not only Loop but also his girlfriend, Julia Otto. Otto's Instagram page is private, according to The Post, but the comments flooded an engagement photo of the couple posted to Loop's Instagram page.
The engagement photo is the top photo on Loop's Instagram page. It shows the couple in an embrace last March. "Going to spend forever wondering how I got this lucky. I cannot wait to marry my best friend and the best guy I’ve ever known, I love you @tyler_loop!" Otto wrote with the post.
But Ravens fans quickly turned it into a forum to debate the missed kick. "1 job," a person sniped in Loop's comment thread.
"I’m on indeed looking for your job," wrote another person.
But others were more sympathetic. "Dude I feel bad for the kid…" wrote one.
"Turn off the comments if I were you 😂" another person advised. "It’s crazy all these Ravens fans mad because of Tyler Loop when in reality as a team they underperformed throughout the entire season and it cost them the division. Tyler Loop is human people, calm down," another person wrote.
Loop did limit the comment on another photo, from December 6, that shows him kicking with the now-awkward caption, "Life recently has been pretty awesome!"
He also limited the comments on a post from November showing him with Otto. "My good and perfect gift from above. 3 months until I get to marry her!" the caption reads.
According to Sports Illustrated, Loop had a strong rookie season. He was 29-for-32 on field goals. The kick would have sent the Ravens to the playoffs, but ended their season instead.
