Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Alex Vesia, who mysteriously missed the World Series, has revealed the tragic reason, confirming that he and his wife Kayla lost their baby daughter.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post, Alex and Kayla Vesia shared a photo of the infant's tiny hand and revealed that her name was Sterling Sol Vesia. They confirmed the baby's death.
"Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always," they wrote.
"Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her," the statement continued.
"Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them," the post added on November 7.
"Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort," they continued. "Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible."
The Dodgers responded on the comment thread: "Thinking of you all and sending so much love. 💙"
People expressed well-wishes in the comment thread. "We are here to hold you guys through it all. ❤️🩹 We love you all!" wrote one person.
Kayla Vesia had shared her pregnancy journey on Instagram in the weeks and months before Sterling's death. The cause of death of the baby is not clear.
In August, she wrote with a pregnancy photo, "Oh babygirl, how you’re the sun to me! Being your home has been my favorite chapter yet ♥️"
In April, they jointly shared the pregnancy news, writing, "Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter!"
Fans had been very concerned about the Vesias since Alex missed the World Series because the Dodgers had previously only revealed that the couple was dealing with a difficult family situation.
