The 20 Best Ducatis In Movies

Aside from Harley-Davidson, Ducati might be the most distinct and recognizable name in the motorcycle industry. Since 1926, the Italian manufacturer has been a leader in technological advancement and innovation, producing both street-legal and race-ready machines. Today, the company lists six bikes, including the Monster and Diavel, and have have 23 different models to choose from between those. When the company recently sold to Audi, we began reminiscing about our favorite models that have been made over the years, particularly those that have starred in movies. Situation: Getting blown by Daniel Morales' (Samy Naceri) tricked-out Peugeot 406
Why We Love It: Could the 916 SP have totally taken the Peugeot 406? Absolutely. But the rider didn't. Sure, it was probably scripted that way, but we like to think it's because he felt sorry for the 406. Mod a Peugeot all you like, it's still never going to beat this bike in a straight-up race.

Situation: Lyle rides this like an obvious and total newb to motorcycling.
Why We Love It: We're glad we're not Lyle. We'd never drop a 748.

Situation: Not used as regularly as we'd hoped.
Why We Love It: We don't see 848s enough in movies. Unfortunately, that's still the case here. We get a little taste and wish there was more Duc, less everything else.

Actor: Steven Seagal
Situation: As a renegade cop, Boyd naturally chooses Ducati over Harley-Davidson.
Why We Love It: It's kind of like a circus bear on a tricycle, isn't it? All he needs is a fez.

Actor: Jason Patric
Situation: Shaw rides this beauty on a SWAT team mission to retrieve stolen items.
Why We Love It: Because it's the best part, and it takes place right at the beginning of the movie. You can shut it off and walk away after you watch Shaw chase the thieves down on the 916. The rest of the movie's just downhill -- yes, even with Sandra Bullock and Willem Dafoe.

Actor: Wesley Snipes
Situation: Blade's daily ride.
Why We Love It: To be honest, we can't remember anything else about the second Blade installment other than this bike. This ride was the coolest thing about the movie. Don't get us wrong, we love Blade as a character, but riding this 944 ST2 was the only thing that could possibly make him cooler than he already was.

Actor: Tom Cruise
Situation: Carting June Havens (Cameron Diaz) around, while Miller tries to clear his name.
Why We Love It: Oh, Hypermotard, how you love to break our hearts. It looks like a Hypermotard, and was promoted as a Hypermotard. But it's actually an Aprilia SXV 550 under all that Hypermotard flash. It's like bar goggles: It still seems like a good idea if you don't look too closely.

Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
Situation: Cobb is being chased by the bad guys, thus needing the proper wheels.
Why We Love It: We'd ride a Streetfighter in our life-and-death dream sequences, too. Good call.

Why We Love It: The Monster 620 shows up for about the only few seconds of the film worth watching.

Situation: Moore's daily transport.
Why We Love It: Parking a Streetfighter beats parking a car in NYC any day.

Why We Love It: We'll let a direct quote from this film tell you: "Hello, it's a Ducati!"

Situation: Flynn's daily rider.
Why We Love It: Like father, like son. Some can argue that it's just product placement, but how many sons do you know that ride or drive what their fathers did? Thought so. Although, we're not sure if we'd rather have a Duc or a Tron Lightcycle.

Actor: Jason Statham
Situation: As a chauffeur for his gorgeous girlfriend and also as Christmas' daily ride.
Why We Love It: Only one of Statham's down-to-business action characters can make riding a Desmosedici RR as your daily rider seem like the most normal thing in the world. We wish our world worked that way.

Ridden By: Dr. Evil and Mini Me
Actor: Mike Myers and Verne Troyer
Situation: Facilitating a great escape
Why We Love It: Because Dr. Evil and Mini Me are two of the best characters to come out of the Austin Powers franchise. Add a Duc, and high-speed hilarity ensues.

Situation: As female Autobot Arcee.
Why We Love It: Arcee has always been cool with us, throughout the various evolutions of the Transformers. But she's never been cooler than as an 848.

Situation: Used as daily transportation.
Why We Love It: You'd love riding a Sport 1000 as your daily transportation, too. Especially if you managed to get Olivia Wilde to hop on the back of it.

Situation: Racing against Bretton James (Josh Brolin), who's riding a MotoCzysz.
Why We Love It: You should already know that we love this bike from our list of the 20 Dopest Crotch Rockets Ever Made. It takes a certain kind of person to turn down a job offer where someone hands you a Desmosedici RR and says it's yours. Especially after you've already ridden it and seen what it can do.
