Leo Volcy has captured the excitement for Team Haiti returning to this year’s World Cup through a deeply emotional and timely new short film.
Ahead of the team’s FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Scotland on Saturday (June 13) in Boston, director Volcy, who’s known for his work with Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan, the short was released to celebrate Team Haiti’s achievement.
Narrated by Haitian actor and producer Jimmy Jean-Louis, the visual gives viewers a tour of the Caribbean country, its rich culture and members of the homeland’s soccer team. "Once upon a time, we were just children, with only one dream in our hearts," he says in the Haitian Creole language.
Additionally, DJ, contemporary artist and cultural ambassador Michaël Bru, and Haitian soccer legend Jozy Altidore are highlighted in the short. Brun, who’s invested in the preservation of Haitian culture, has been a close companion of the soccer team throughout their journey to the World Cup. Altidore, who retired in 2023 after a 20-year career as a professional athlete, was a forward for the Toronto FC and the United States national team.
This month, Brun brings his event series BAYO to Boston’s Agganis Arena and New York’s Brooklyn Paramount for its 10th anniversary.
While Haiti’s return to the World Cup has been longawaited, the team saw a setback this week after FIFA declared that their original jersey, which included artwork inspired by the Battle of Vertières, was unfit for the games.
The country famously qualified for the World Cup on November 18, 2025, the 222nd anniversary of the historic battle.
