Deion Sanders Reacts to Son Shilo Being Cut by Buccaneers: ‘He’s Gonna Be Straight’

The NFL legend hopes his son will have "the opportunity to go with another team."

Deion Sanders hopes that his son, Shilo Sanders, will land with another NFL team after being cut from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During a preseason game last week, the athlete threw punches at Buffalo Bills tight end Zach Davidson during a brief shoving match on the field. A penalty flag was thrown before Shilo was ejected from the game and, in less than 24 hours, dismissed from the team. The football star joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in April.

Sharing confidence that his son will be recruited by another NFL team was Sanders, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday (August 26), according to Sports Illustrated.

"I prepare my kids for anything and everything that can happen in life and in sports," said Sanders, whose youngest son, Shadeur, is quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

"That's part of fatherhood, that's part of parenting, that's part of having a relationship. He is mentally where he needs to be, physically where he needs to be," he continued.

Sanders added that his family is "praying that he gets another opportunity to go with another team." "But if he doesn't, the plans have already been put forward to what he's gonna do next," he continued. "Shilo's a man of many talents. ... He's gonna be straight. All the Sanders are gonna be straight, with or without football."

If no other team picks Shilo from waivers, the franchise may sign him to the practice squad when signing begins on August 27.

Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles condemned Shilo following the game, stating on the team's website, "You can’t throw punches in this league. It’s inexcusable. They’re gonna get you every time. You gotta grow from that."
