Cristiano Ronaldo has proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Georgina Rodríguez, after nine years of dating.
On Monday (August 11), the Argentine-Spanish model posted a picture on Instagram of herself flaunting a massive oval-shaped diamond ring with Ronaldo's hand beneath hers. "Yes I do," Rodríguez captioned the post. "In this and all of my lives."
The couple, who met at a Gucci store in Madrid where Rodríguez worked as an associate, are parents to four children, while the Portuguese soccer star has an oldest child, Cristiano Jr., 14, from a previous relationship. In April 2022, Ronaldo and Rodríguez's son, Ángel, died shortly after birth, while his twin sister, Bella, was safely delivered.
Ronaldo appeared in the first episode of Rodríguez's 2022 Netflix docuseries, I Am Georgina, where he opened up about why he was waiting to propose to his then-girlfriend.
"I always tell her, 'When we get that click,'" the athlete said at the time. "Like everything with our life, and she knows what I'm talking about. It could be in a year or it could be in six months or it could be in a month.
Ronaldo also insisted that he was "1000% sure" that the proposal would happen.
Also in the episode, Rodriguez joked that her friends often tease her about Ronaldo waiting to pop the question. "They're always joking about the wedding. 'When is the wedding?'" she said.
She continued, "Since Jennifer Lopez's song 'the ring or when" ["El Anillo"] came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me."
Engagement speculation arose in April of this year after Rodríguez posted a picture on Instagram Stories of herself wearing a large diamond ring while holding a sparkler. "And keep evil away from us, Amen," the caption read, according to Brides.
