Track and field athlete Sha’Carri Richardson "lost" an impromptu track race to a four-year-old girl in a heartwarming viral video.
Posted to Instagram by content creator Jen Jean-Pierre, who filmed the video in March, the 24-year-old Dallas native was seen running alongside Jean-Pierre’s daughter, Teagan.
"This is me capturing content for the world’s fastest woman," Jean-Pierre said in the clip below. "And this is my beautifully confident 4-year-old challenging her to a race."
In the video, Teagan adorably told Richardson to "wait" while she moved to the number 4 lane on the track. While Teagan made a dash towards the finish line, Richardson playfully tiptoed behind her, allowing the child to win.
"No joke, I have seen Teagan’s independence peek out more since that day in March," Jean-Pierre captioned the reel. "It’s been great watching the Olympics and seeing so many Black women beast out and show their athletic prowess and strength but for our family, there is no one like Sha’Carri. She is our champion through and through."
Richardson made the world proud with her gold and silver medal wins during the 2024 Paris Olympics in the last two weeks. Pop and soul vocalist Adele even paused her Germany concert to watch Richardson race in the women’s 100-meter race, although she’d take second place behind Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia.
