The Miami Heat have until Sunday (April 12) to fill an open roster spot after waiving guard Terry Rozier.

The move arrived Friday (April 10) when the NBA required teams to waive players with an expiring contract or one where the team held an option for next season. In Rozier’s case, his four-year, $97 million contract originally inked with the Charlotte Hornets is near the end.

Rozier has a lot in his plate and hasn’t been in the court since October since his arrest back in October amid a crackdown on illegal spots betting. Also indicted were Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and former player Damon Jones among a group of 31.

Rozier has been placed on leave from the NBA as a result of the arrest. He’s since pled not guilty on conspiracy charges of wire fraud and money laundering after being accused of engaging in illegal sports betting since his time with the Hornets.

But Rozier has one win to celebrate. In February, an independent arbitrator ruled that he must be paid the salary the NBA had been withholding since 2025. Approximately $26.6 million, which was placed in escrow, will be released to him.

The decision depended on the language of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which states players cannot be put on unpaid leave unless the case involves domestic or child abuse. His next court date is set for April 27.

Complex has reached out to Miami Heat representatives for comment. This story may be updated.
