Believe it or not, in 2014, there are people who still don't know that The Onion doesn't write real news stories. Crazy, right? Real, actual people who are completely unable to tell the difference between a factual news and a completely fake one.
Some of these people are Chicago Bears fans who were still stinging from the 55-14 beat down the Green Bay Packers laid down against their team on Sunday, and looking for any reason to pile on their quarterback Jay Cutler. Capitalizing on this anguish, The Onion posted a story yesterday headlined, "Jay Cutler: ‘I’ll Be The First Person To Admit We Need A New Punter’".
The post provided fake quotes from Cutler saying things like, "It’s certainly not an easy thing to say, but at the end of the day, someone has to step up and accept that mistakes were made by our punter, Pat O’Donnell." There were a couple other made-up nuggets which continued to portray the Bears QB as critical of his rookie teammate.
Now, Jay Cutler is known for being careless and having a "don't-give-a-shit" sort of attitude, but, c'mon, Bears fans, even he wouldn't go so far as to blame a punter for the embarrassment Chicago suffered a few days ago.
However, the Chicago faithful let themselves be fooled, ripping apart Cutler in numerous tweets, and endorsing the story on their social media accounts. So, we invite you to sit back, scroll through, and enjoy the palpable irony of watching a bunch of people talk about how "stupid" Cutler is based on an Onion article.
