LeBron James to Executive Produce HBO Documentary on College Athletes

It's set to premiere in October.

LeBron James is set to executive produce a documentary that will air on HBO called Student Athlete. The doc will look into "the complex rules of amateur athletics in America," and also "how they affect uncompensated athletes and their families."

Maverick Carter, LeBron James' business partner who doubles as the CEO of SpringHill Entertainment (a company founded by the two men) added to that with a statement of his own, wherein he said:

Stoute said that the idea behind the documentary is to show the NCAA's hypocrisy:

Not surprisingly, the focus will be on college basketball and football.

That's not the only documentary James has in the works. There's also the LeBron and Carter-collaborated eight-part YouTube documentary Best Shot, which will follow ex-Duke/Bulls point guard Jay Williams as he hops onto the coaching staff of a New Jersey high school team.

Student Athlete is set to debut Monday, October 2 on HBO.
