Like most of us, Dana White didn't think there was ever any sort of realistic chance of Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fighting one another. Back in May, he said there was "no way in hell" that the potential fight would happen. But since then, Mayweather and McGregor have continued to talk about the possibility of the fight taking place, so on Monday, White answered another round of questions about the rumored fight while speaking with TMZ Sports. And once again, he did his best to dead the conversation surrounding the fight by pointing out why it wouldn't work.
"I never thought it was going to happen," he said, before saying that Mayweather and McGregor take part in "two totally different sports."
White then said that the only reason Mayweather and McGregor continue to talk about the fight is because they both really, really, really love money. And a fight between them would obviously be a huge moneymaker. "They seem to want the money ," he said, "but I don't know how bad they want to make that [fight] a reality."
And White finished things off by saying that if the fight did take place, he would be in charge of setting the ground rules for it, which is something Mayweather wouldn't like. "Listen, Conor's under contract with me," he said. "We can start with kicks, punches, and elbows."
You can continue to blindly hold out hope for this fight at your own risk if you want to, but it doesn't sound like it's going to happen.
