After 11 seasons in the NFL, Marshawn Lynch has decided to hang up his cleats for good.
On Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Twitter that Lynch will not suit up for the 2019-20 season.
"After two seasons playing for his hometown Oakland Raiders," Schefter tweeted. "Marshawn Lynch is not planning to play football again, league sources tell ESPN."
Although there's no word from Lynch himself confirming the news, this will be his second retirement. In 2015, after being part of a dominant Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks, Lynch announced his departure from the sport by tweeting a simple picture of his cleats hanging from a telephone wire. Lynch spent the interim two years indulging in various side projects and philanthropic work before he got back in the game to play for the Raiders, his hometown squad.
Lynch has been a fan favorite since his days at Cal Berkeley, where he started a sideshow with a stolen a medical cart. He was also one of the best on the gridiron. The five-time Pro Bowler ran for a total of 10,379 years in addition to leading the league in rushing touchdowns twice. This definitely puts him in Hall of Fame contention.
