It looks like Kyrie Irving's toxic relationship with the Celtics is officially over, as he reportedly cut off all communication with the franchise in preparation for free agency.

On Monday, the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach reported that Irving "essentially ghosted" the team after exercising his player option and entered free agency.

"The strangest part of the Irving situation right now is that it appears he has essentially ghosted on the Celtics," Himmelsbach reported. "The people within the organization I have spoken with have made it clear that they have had little, if any, communication with Irving in recent weeks."

This may be the final nail in the coffin of the Kyrie Era in Boston. When Irving was ending his tenure with Cleveland, he allegedly shut down communication with the team in a similar way. It's also rumored that Irving met with Kevin Durant following his Achilles surgery to discuss the possibility of teaming up together. This all comes amid rumors that Irving is preparing to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Yet, the biggest indicator that Irving will move on from the Celtics was the Lakers' acquisition of Anthony Davis. Although AD didn't want to be traded to Boston, the Celtics felt that they could convince Irving not to enter free agency if they landed Davis. Instead, Davis ended up at his preferred destination, leaving the Celtics with an abundance of assets that seemingly won't entice Irving to stick around.

The confirmation of these reports may come as early as this week. Per The Athletic's Shams Charania, Boston is expected to have a meeting with Irving on Thursday. This conversation could reinforce that Irving will not re-sign with the team.
