Kennesaw State University Women's Basketball Star Charged With Murder

A college women's basketball star has been charged for a murder case that dates back to July.

Kennesaw State University point guard Kamiyah Street was taken into custody by Atlanta police on Thursday. According to the local Fox affiliate, Street is connected to the killing of 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne. Authorities claim that Hubbard-Etienne and his friend were met with bullets while in a parked car at an apartment complex. It is unclear if the victim was the intended target, but police believe that the incident was a robbery gone awry.

Street is now facing eight charges, including three counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit robbery, and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Per the indictment, the 20-year-old is one of five suspects accused of this crime. All of the suspects are between the ages of 20 and 22 years old. Along with Street, Johnerton Gilstrap, Tabias Wells, and Cortez Banks have also been arrested. Police are still searching for an additional suspect.

Street was a standout player for Kennesaw State and was poised to put together a big year. She was averaging 21 points and five rebounds through the team's first five games. KSU assistant vice president of communications Tammy DeMel issued a statement regarding Street's future with the team following her arrest.

"The Kennesaw State Department of Athletics was made aware Thursday evening that Kamiyah Street of the KSU women’s basketball team was arrested and is being held, pending charges," the statement reads. "She has been suspended indefinitely from all women’s basketball team and athletic activities. Neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time."
