As Canada, and the rest of the world, gear up against the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the Toronto Raptors are certainly facing their own brunt of the virus. With eight players not being available on the court for Wednesday night’s game due to COVID-19 safety protocols, the NBA has decided to postpone the team’s matchup against the Chicago Bulls.
A Raptors spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that OG Anunoboy has become the latest player to step away from the court for Wednesday’s game. Anunoboy is the eighth player to be sidelined, joining Precious Achiuwa, Dalano Banton, Scottie Barnes, Malachi Flynn, Pascal Siakam, Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet. Additionally, centre Khem Birch is off with knee swelling, David Johnson is out with a calf injury and Justin Champagnie is unavailable with a non-COVID related illness.
Attempting to counteract the drastic loss of players, the Raptors signed Nik Staukus, Brandon Goodwin, Juwan Morgan, and Tremont Waters from the G-League under the NBA’s hardship clause.
This is now the third game the Raptors have postponed, along with two home games against the Orlando Magic and the Bulls earlier this month. Toronto is set to take the court against the Bulls again on Dec. 26.
