Odell Beckham, Jr. is now living in the limelight as a superstar NFL player in New York City. But as a Louisiana native, the Giants wideout hasn't forgotten when he comes from and wants to help rebuild his hometown of Baton Rouge that was ravaged by one of the worst natural disaster in U.S. history this past summer.
The two-time Pro Bowler announced on his Twitter account Saturday that he plans to donate the first $500,000 in profits he earns from his Nike NFL Color Rush jersey sales to repair the football fields damaged from last month's Baton Rouge, Louisiana floods.
Beckham, Jr. was a standout wide receiver at LSU, which is located in Baton Rouge. The blonde-dyed wide receiver is showcasing his due diligence helping Baton Rouge youth achieve the dreams and goals that he accomplished beginning on those same fields he practiced and play on to become the athlete that he is today.
According to CNN, the catastrophic floods in Baton Rogue destroyed an estimated 60,000 homes, and caused an insurmountable $30 million in damages to the area with 6.9 trillion gallons of rainfall in August alone. There were 13 total deaths from the floods.
Beckham, Jr. is now in his third season playing in the NFL. According to Spotrac, his salary is approximately $2.8 million this season per his rookie contract, which expires at the end of the 2017 season.
