Anyone you know from Chicago will attest that even though the city has had two MLB teams since the beginning of the 20th century, it's really a Cubs town. Despite the fact that the White Sox won the World Series in 2005—the first time that the city of Chicago won a world championship baseball title since 1917—Chicago residents and baseball fans from elsewhere oddly never considered the White Sox as a "cursed team" aligned with the lore of their beloved Cubs.
Maybe the frequent appearances of Hollywood icon Bill Murray at Wrigley Field will be their good luck charm, and allow them to finally defeat the mythic Curse of the Billy Goat and nab their first World Series win since 1908.
Murray, a Chicago native, was on-hand at Wrigley Field for the Giants-Cubs NLDS Game 1 on Friday night, and had his rally cap and awesome t-shirt that read "I Ain't Afraid of No Goat," a reference to his iconic role in Ghostbusters.
In the eighth inning, the Cubs' Javier Baez hit a home run, and Jon Lester's stellar performance on the mound defended the Cubs to a 1-0 victory. You can see how Murray got excited by the win in the clip below:
Game 2 of the NLDS is Saturday night, and we can bet that the fans are hoping for Murray's presence at Wrigley to go up 2-0 in the series.
