The NBA and NFL shared Christmas this year, for the second time.
But despite the NFL's obvious move to dominate Christmas, which has traditionally been a showcase for the NBA, LeBron James wants the world to know that December 25th will always belong to his league.
“I love the NFL. I love the NFL. But Christmas is our day,” James said in a postgame interview after his Lakers' thrilling win against the Golden State Warriors.
Christmas has been the NBA’s holiday until last year when the NFL played that day because it fell on a Monday. Before that, the league said it wouldn’t schedule games if the holiday fell on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
According to NBC Sports, the NFL’s ratings were so good that it decided to play Christmas every year, no matter what day it fell on. And to drive the point home, the NFL aired its games on Netflix for the first time ever, featured a halftime performance by none other than Beyoncé.
Before Wednesday's slate of games, James also lamented not having special Christmas day uniforms.
“Not having Xmas day unis anymore really sucks!" James tweeted on Wednesday. "That was a great feeling walking into the locker room and seeing those. It was literally like receiving a [present]! Whomp whomp!”
