LeBron James has come to Kyrie Irving’s defense, following controversy regarding an anti-semitic film Irving shared on social media.

“I told you guys that I don’t believe in sharing hurtful information. And I’ll continue to be that way but Kyrie apologized and he should be able to play,” LeBron wrote on Twitter. “That’s what I think. It’s that simple. Help him learn- but he should be playing. What he’s asked to do to get back on the floor I think is excessive IMO. He’s not the person that’s being portrayed of him.”

Last week, LeBron shared his opinion on the backlash Irving faced after posting the film.

“It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, how tall you are or what position you’re in,” LeBron said in part. “If you are promoting, soliciting, or saying harmful things to any community that harms people, then I don’t respect it. I don’t condone it.” He continued, “I hope he understands that what he said was harmful to a lot of people.”

Following Irving’s suspension, the Brooklyn Nets revealed that he wouldn’t be allowed to play for “no less than five games.” Sources later told Shams Charania that there are six additional action items Irving must complete in order to return to the Nets, which included issuing an apology for posting the anti-semitic video, completing sensitivity training, making a $500,000 philanthropic donation, and more.
