Jon Jones is advocating for transparency in America’s healthcare system.
The UFC champion has partnered with the nonprofit Power to the Patients for a new Super Bowl ad, which brings attention to the United State’s healthcare crisis and calls for a more equitable system.
In the commercial, Jones reprimands hospitals and insurance companies for setting up a system that can “overcharge patients without any accountability,” noting that bills for services like x-rays, blood tests, and surgeries can lead to bankruptcy for some patients.
Jones is aiming to compel hospitals and insurance companies to share pricing for services and procedures beforehand so patients know what to expect, and hopefully won’t go into debt. Over 100 million Americans are reportedly in personally bankruptcy as a result of medical debt.
“I am proud to be joining Power to the Patients to take on hospitals and insurance companies that refuse to show their prices,” Jones said a statement. “This fight for me is a personal one, and arguably the most important fight of my career.”
That sentiment was also echoed in a clip he posted to his Instagram.
