Steve Kerr didn’t hesitate to keep things real. Shortly after his team swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to capture the 2018 NBA title Friday night, the Golden State head coach admitted the match-up wasn't exactly balanced. Which was pretty obvious to anyone who kept up with the conference finals.
According to ESPN host Rachel Nichols, Kerr said he was surprised the Cavaliers were able to make it as far as they did, but credited LeBron James and Tyronn Lue, for making the improbable happen.
“The fact that they got here surprised me, frankly. Watching them, it didn't seem like they would have enough,” Kerr said, as reported by Nichols. “We had more talent than they did, and talent wins in this league.”
Though most fans weren't surprised by Golden State's historic back-to-back championship win, many were stunned by LeBron's post-game revelation: He was concealing a self-inflicted hand injury for the past week.
“I let the emotions get the best of me, and pretty much played the last three games with a broken hand,” LeBron told reporters Friday night.
LeBron said he injured his hand by punching a whiteboard in the locker room, following the Cavs' disappointing OT loss in Game 1. But not everyone was buying the athlete's claim.
