The brother of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after a body was discovered this week in the NFL player’s New Jersey home.
According to the CBS News, authorities announced the charges against 34-year-old William Jenkins on Wednesday, just a day after music producer Roosevelt Rene was found dead in Janoris’ basement. The victim was a friend of the athlete and had been living in the residence at the time of his death.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office confirmed William is being held in Ontario County, New York, where he was arrested Tuesday for an alleged parole violation. He's expected to be extradited to New Jersey soon.
According to TMZ, William was arrested in New York about nine hours before Rene’s body was found.
Prior to the manslaughter charges, authorities identified William as a “person of interest” in Rene’s death, but did not label him a suspect; however, as investigators began digging, they reportedly found evidence linking William to the killing.
If convicted, the suspect will face between 10 to 30 years behind bars. Stay tuned as more information about the case becomes available.
