Former Celtics Star Glen Davis Charged with Felony Assault

Former NBA star Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been charged with felony assault stemming from a physical altercation that occurred in West Hollywood earlier this year.

According to TMZ Sports, the 32-year-old ex-Celtics player was arrested in late May after he was suspected of beating up a man outside of a nightclub. Witnesses told the outlet that Davis nearly hit the alleged victim with his vehicle, before he got out of his car and physically attacked the man in a parking lot. It was reported that the individual was hospitalized with major injuries, including facial fractures, a broken tooth, and broken ribs.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County D.A.’s office confirmed that Davis has officially been charged with felony assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. If convicted, Davis could spend up to seven years behind bars.

According to Sporting News, the former athlete, who concluded his eight-season professional career in 2015, is set to be arraigned Thursday.

These charges mark the second major legal battle Davis has had to face this year alone. In February, Davis was indicted and arrested on seven counts of drug possession and distribution, after he was found with 126 grams of marijuana and more than $92,000 in cash inside a briefcase.

Shortly after his February arrest, Davis went to social media to deny the allegations: “Don't believe all that shit on the internet,” he said in a since-deleted Instagram video. “I will have my day in court.”

The drug-related charges are still pending.
