A five-year suspension…for weed?

After UFC 183 back in January, both Anderson Silva and Nick Diazfailed drug tests that were given to them. Silva tested positive for an anabolic steroid and eventually received a one-year suspension for it. Diaz tested positive for marijuana, and the thought was that he'd receive a much lighter suspension than Silva.

That definitely didn't turn out to be the case, though. We don't really even know how this is possible, but earlier today, the Nevada State Athletic Commission docked Diaz 30 percent of the $500,000 purse he received for fighting Silva and suspended him for—you ready for this?—five years. FIVE years. As in, F-I-V-E.

Granted, Diaz has failed drug tests in the past. He also pleaded the fifth during his hearing with the NSAC, and his lawyer went toe-to-toe with NSAC commissioner Pat Lundvall , which has led some people to believe that Pundvall's punishment was personal:

But still, five years? For weed?

Even if you think weed is the worst thing in the world, that's a ridiculous punishment. There's no way that suspension actually holds up, right?
