Josh Allen, quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, experienced a crushing playoff elimination after losing to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, January 17, but the injuries he sustained during the season may be the real story for the QB.
Allen, 29, has been the driving force behind the Bills’ offense since joining the team in 2018. The overtime loss against the Broncos, which ended the Bills’ run toward Super Bowl LX, was crushing for the star who shed tears during his post-game press, explaining he felt he let the team down.
While Allen may have struggled through his emotions after a difficult loss earlier this month, the injuries he sustained during the season may have been a more difficult cross to bear.
Using crutches and wearing a walking cast, Allen appeared to be in far worse shape than Bills fans realized during the season. After revealing he’d been playing through a broken foot earlier this week during a Bills press conference (via USA Today), Allen was finally spotted post-surgery.
Sharing that the injury was sustained during a game against the Cleveland Browns during the NFL season, Allen was playing on a broken foot throughout the difficult playoffs. While the injury wasn’t new, it was aggravated during the more recent game, and required further attention after the season came to a close. Allen’s recovery time, said to be roughly 8 to 10 weeks, won’t impact his training as the Bills get ready to compete next season.
Though Bills fans are still working through the pain of having lost in such a nail-biter, it’s clear that the team is aware of what’s required to move forward. After their most recent loss, the Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott.
