The 4Runner has been a key part of Toyota's SUV lineup for nearly three decades, but that lengthy history didn't stop the Japanese manufacturing giant straying from the typical softer image for the reveal of the 2014 take on the classic. Presenting the reveal at the Indio, CA-based country music festival Stagecoach, Toyota paired the release with a vintage-styled circus performance, emceeing from SiriusXM's Buzz Brainard and a mini concert from award-winning country artist Dierks Bentley. The event, all in all, was a success, and the 2014 model gives a sleek update to a tried and true Toyota mainstay. Complex attended the reveal to get the full story on the updates. Here are 5 Things To Know About the 2014 Toyota 4Runner.

Crawl Control

For those venturing outside the city streets in their 4Runner, the car's body-on-frame construction and off-road capabilities have always been key. The 2014 model, however, includes a new feature called "Crawl Control"-standard on the Trail grade model-that makes off-road exploring easier than ever. Switching on the Crawl option means that the car effectively handles gas and brake so you can focus 100% of your attention on steering.

New Audio

In case you thought the emphasis on music wasn't stressed enough, the updated 4Runner features a full new Entune Audio Plus multimedia system-it's built for entertainment. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is integrated into the eight speaker system, along with Bluetooth capabilities, USB port with iPod connectivity and HD Radio with iTunes tagging. Further apps are available to operate seamlessly with the system, including iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com. Pandora, and even OpenTable for those last minute dinner reservations.

Styling Updates

Although the 4Runner isn't specifically delegated as a luxury vehicle, it's still designed to be one. The big, roomy interior is now complemented by a sleeker design inside. In one color scheme, red detailing highlights the sleek, black look with that extra pop, and has more refined features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather shift knob contribute to the premium atmosphere. The front of the car now boasts an updated grille with an intense, edgier look that includes redesigned projector headlamps, replacing the old halogens.

Increased Storage Space

The 2014 4Runner features even more space and accessibility for carrying and storing equipment and material. A pull-out cargo deck that can handle 400+ pounds is available to help with loading and unloading, or as extra seating for tailgating and other outings. The second-row seats also fold flat without the annoyance of removing the headrest, and the third-row seats fold down using one touch levers, leaving a flat surface to conveniently carry deep objects.

Tailored For Tailgating

Toyota has been the founding partner of Stagecoach's music festival since the event's inception back in 2006-a commitment to music and community that is reflected in the 4Runner's new audio mode, which features a setting that allows easy speaker balance shifting. For those who still love tailgating, the 4Runner's speaker shift makes starting a party out of the back of your car easier than ever, shifting the sound balance to rear of the vehicle and raising the bass. The feature was originally called "Party Mode" and had its own button, but, unfortunately, Toyota moved away from this.
