Manti Te'o is not starting 2013 on the right foot at all. His draft stock may have went down a few notches after his mediocre performance in the BCS Championship, but last night, we saw his credibility as a person decrease as well. Deadspin's shocking report revealed that Te'o's girlfriend who had reportedly died of leukemia last year, didn't actually die or have leukemia. She didn't even exist. Few people think the linebacker may have been a victim to some Catfish ish, but the Deadspin article suggests that he was very much involved in the lie. Just like that, one of the top lineback prospects turned into Twitter's top trending topics. See some of the better responses on Twitter Reacts to the Manti Te'o Hoax.

See? Having an imaginary girlfriend isn't all bad. It opened up a new opportunity for Te'o.
