Adrian Peterson's fall was steep, from an inspiring 2012 NFL MVP after that ACL injury to being villainized after the child abuse news. Unlike the ACL, Peterson thought this suspension was too much for him to handle. ESPN's Ben Goessling said Peterson was thinking about retirement during his still-ongoing suspension.

Talked with Adrian Peterson for about an hour on the phone tonight. He said he's seriously considered retirement during his suspension.

So even the invincible Peterson gets rocked to the core when such a fall hits him. He better use the extra time to reconcile his will to play at the age of 29—his appeal got denied earlier today.
