The two high school football players who viciously attacked a referee during a game are now alleging that the reason they did so was in retaliation for the official directing racial slurs at them.
The video clip above shows that the action taken by the players to blindside the referee was indefensible. But anytime race is brought into the equation, things can get tricky, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a lesser punishment handed down if the allegations are proven to be true.
An attorney for the official told ESPN that his client is "outraged" by the allegation.
