WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, remembered by fans around the world as “IRS” (Irwin R. Schyster), has entered hospice care at the age of 67, according to family and close friends.
The news was shared by Rotunda’s brother-in-law and former tag team partner, Barry Windham, during an interview with veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter on Saturday, October 25.
Windham did not provide details about Rotunda’s condition, but made clear the seriousness of the situation. “It’s kinda tough right now. Mike is in hospice right now,” Windham said. “He was just a good boy. He was such a good person, never got in trouble at all his whole life. He’s a good boy.”
Former WWE Women’s Champion Leilani Kai also spoke publicly, posting a tribute on X, according to Fox News. “It breaks my heart to share that my friend Mike Rotunda has been placed under hospice care,” Kai wrote. “This photo was from earlier this year — a moment I’ll treasure. Please keep Mike and the Rotunda family in your prayers. We love you, Mike.”
Rotunda’s career spanned across WWF, WCW, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, making him one of the most versatile performers of the 1980s and 1990s. He rose to prominence as one-half of the U.S. Express with Windham, capturing the WWF Tag Team Championship twice. The duo was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2024.
Later, Rotunda reinvented himself with one of WWE’s most memorable personas: IRS, the tax-obsessed villain who demanded his opponents and audiences alike pay their “fair share.” Teaming with Ted DiBiase as Money Inc., the pair secured the WWF Tag Team Championship on three occasions.
According to Sports Illustrated, Rotunda also enjoyed success in WCW, where he aligned with “Dr. Death” Steve Williams to defeat The Road Warriors for the NWA World Tag Team Championship. His run with the Varsity Club and later his stint in the nWo further showcased his adaptability inside the ring.
Beyond his own career, Rotunda is the patriarch of a wrestling family. He is the father of Taylor Rotunda, better known as Bo Dallas, and the late Windham Rotunda, who captivated audiences as Bray Wyatt before his untimely passing in 2023.
Rotunda’s last major WWE appearance came during the “Raw is XXX” special in 2023, where he joined DiBiase in a cameo celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary.
