Before taking down Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-3, 7-6 (3) on Court Suzanne-Lenglen on Tuesday, May 26, Osaka walked into Roland-Garros wearing a custom black couture look designed with Swiss designer Kevin Germanier. According to The Associated Press, the fit featured a beaded corset-style bodice and flowing pleated skirt crafted from deconstructed pieces of Osaka’s old tennis gear, turning a standard pre-match entrance into a full runway moment.
Then came the reveal.
Once on court, Osaka peeled away the outer layer to unveil a sparkling gold Nike dress covered in reflective sequins designed to catch the Paris sunlight. The look immediately lit up social media and added another chapter to what’s becoming one of the strongest fashion runs in sports right now.
“It’s very couture,” Osaka said after the match. “You know the Eiffel Tower at night when it’s sparkly. I kind of think I look like that a little bit.”
The vibe was intentional. Germanier told Vogue he wanted the outfit to feel “romantic yet strong,” while blending couture with performance wear. Osaka’s gold on-court kit leaned fully into that idea, mixing high-fashion detailing with competition-ready gear.
