Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie, have changed the name of their new German Shepherd puppy once again, bringing the running tally to at least three names in just over a week.
During the April 8 episode of New Heights, Jason introduced the family’s newest pet with a different name than the one fans heard last week. Holding the puppy up for the camera, he told brother Travis Kelce, “This is Frida, or as everyone is calling, ‘Freddie.’ Everyone is calling her Freddie around the house.”
The latest name change comes after Kylie first introduced the puppy on her podcast at the end of March. At that point, the dog was called Bernadette. Shortly afterward, the family appeared to settle on Matilda. Now, Frida—shortened to Freddie—has emerged as the apparent favorite.
Even then, Jason suggested there might still be room for one more change. While speaking with Travis, he said he personally preferred a different name entirely. “I’m calling her Gunda, because I like that name better. She’s German, right?” he joked.
The rest of the Kelce household does not appear to be on board. Jason and Kylie’s oldest daughter, Wyatt, quickly stepped in to correct him. “It’s not Gunda—it’s Freddie!” she said as she briefly appeared on camera.
Travis sided with his nieces, responding, “I like Freddie.”
Jason later clarified that the dog’s official name is still Frida, while Freddie has become the nickname used around the house.
The family’s newest addition arrives after months of discussion over whether the Kelce household would get a cat instead. Jason and Kylie’s daughters—Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley—had reportedly been lobbying for one. The debate even drew in Taylor Swift during an appearance on New Heights last summer.
Swift, who is engaged to Travis, recalled trying to convince the Kelce children that cats were not dangerous after Jason jokingly suggested otherwise. “As soon as I got the kids around the cats, it was my goal to prove to them that they weren’t poisonous,” Swift said, adding that she introduced them to her cat Benjamin Button.
Despite the family’s interest in a cat, Kylie recently said a dog made more sense for where the household is right now. She explained that while she had met several cats during the search process, “we’re not ready for that.”
For now, the Kelces appear to have settled—at least temporarily—on Frida, with Freddie close behind. Whether the puppy keeps that name for long is another question entirely.
