The latest sign that the relationship between Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies may be headed toward a crossroads arrived off the court: one of the star guard’s Tennessee homes is now on the market.
According to the Commercial Appeal, Morant’s Eads, Tennessee, mansion, located roughly 25 miles outside Memphis, has been listed for $3.5 million. The property is owned through the Mountain Brook Cove Land Trust and was purchased in 2022 from former Grizzlies forward Kyle Anderson for just over $3 million.
Through his trust, Morant still owns another nearby home in the same neighborhood, which he bought in 2019 for $1.33 million.
The sale comes only a few months after Morant reportedly purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami. It also arrives after months of trade speculation surrounding the two-time All-Star.
The Grizzlies explored the possibility of moving Morant before February’s trade deadline, according to reporting from Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, and are expected to continue listening to offers this summer.
Miami has repeatedly surfaced as a possible landing spot, along with the Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks. But people close to Morant have maintained that a change of scenery has never been about Memphis itself.
“It has nothing to do with Memphis,” one source familiar with Morant’s thinking said previously.
That message stands in contrast to the way Morant’s season ended. The 26-year-old appeared in only 20 games this year while dealing with injuries and inconsistency, averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists. Memphis finished 25-55 and missed the playoffs.
There were smaller signs of strain, too. During the Grizzlies’ Fan Appreciation Night, Morant was the only active player who did not hand his jersey to a fan. One source said he “just stood there and watched,” while another said Morant had not been told in advance that he would be expected to participate.
