The fallout from the canceled Jake Paul vs. Gervonta “Tank” Davis bout on Netflix keeps getting messier.

According to Sports Illustrated, the WBA lightweight champion has finally broken his silence. Posting to X (formerly Twitter) on December 7, Davis wrote, “Paul was getting his a** beat in camp….. i was gonna do him bad.. but everything happens for a reason that’s why I didn’t trip. Shawty has a whole history of going after men with money .. it’s me so y’all believed it. Y’all couldn’t wait. More opportunities in da future though. 👌🫡.”

In a follow-up post, Davis took direct aim at Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, claiming, “MVP couldn’t uphold nothing. Al [Haymon] had to come in to take over everything… MVP IS GARBAGE! Y’all run nothing at Netflix. Y’all are just workers.”

Both posts were deleted shortly after they were made public.

The fight’s collapse stems from a lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County on October 30, in which Davis’s ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, accused him of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping following an alleged altercation at a Miami-area nightclub.

The accusations cast immediate doubt over the bout’s future, prompting Netflix and Paul’s camp to reassess their plans.

Shortly after the cancellation was confirmed, Paul fired back with his own public statement, criticizing Davis for his alleged behavior and professionalism.

“Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage,” Paul wrote on X. “Working with him is an absolute nightmare. The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests and related accusations and lawsuits. If you support this man you support the most vile sin a man can commit.”

Paul continued, “I didn’t want to give this woman abuser a platform to grow his fans and to grow his bank account. My company champions women. I’m so sorry to everyone involved...Sacrificing time with loved ones and kids just for this fool to lose his unintelligent mind again.”

In the wake of the canceled bout, Paul’s team immediately began searching for a replacement opponent.

An offer was first extended to Ryan Garcia, though a deal never materialized due to Garcia’s existing promotional commitments.

Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions later confirmed that they solidified a fight against Anthony Joshua, scheduled to air on Netflix on Friday, December 19.
