Inside FTR’s Brutal AEW Dynasty Win Over Copeland And Cage

Blood, chaos, and a hometown heartbreak: how FTR used every weapon, every trick, and a little help from Stokely Hathaway to keep the AEW tag titles in Vancouver.

FTR walked into AEW Dynasty with the AEW World Tag Team Championship and left Vancouver still holding the belts after a bruising, deeply personal win over Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler defeated Copeland and Cage on Sunday, April 12, at Rogers Arena, surviving a wild match that spilled outside the ring and leaned hard into the bad-blood history between the two teams.

Per Post Wrestling, with Christian taken out late after being launched into the timekeeper’s area, Copeland found himself trapped in a two-on-one fight in front of a hometown crowd that desperately wanted to see him pull it off.

For a moment, it looked like he might. Copeland dropped both members of FTR with a double spear and nearly turned the match around by himself. But FTR did what FTR has done for more than 140 days now: find a way to win. Harwood and Wheeler hit the Shatter Machine and retained the titles, extending a reign that started back at Full Gear 2025.

The match was full of the kind of chaos that has defined FTR’s run lately. The champions used a steel chair, cracked Copeland with one of their title belts, and left him busted open before the final stretch. Stokely Hathaway also made sure the numbers stayed in FTR’s favor, yanking Cage off the apron at a key moment and helping swing the match back toward the champs.

The timing could not have been bigger for FTR. Shortly before Dynasty, Harwood and Wheeler announced a limited-edition tequila collaboration with Lost Lore. Only 1,980 bottles are being made, and every dollar from the release will go toward buying protective equipment for jimadores, the workers who harvest agave in Mexico. Founder Arturo Lamas, whose family has deep roots in tequila-making, even created a bottle that sticks to that aesthetic.

Copeland and Cage, meanwhile, had every reason to want revenge. The two reunited in 2025 after years apart and came after FTR following Revolution. Their issue with the champions went beyond wins and losses. Last year, FTR not only attacked Copeland and Cage after a match, but also targeted Copeland’s wife, Beth Phoenix, making the feud one of the most personal stories in AEW.

FTR first won the AEW tag titles in this reign by defeating Brody King and Bandido at Full Gear, becoming only the second team in company history to begin a third run with the belts.

They are now tied for the most AEW tag title reigns ever and remain one of the few teams whose reputation stretches far beyond one company. Before AEW, Harwood and Wheeler won championships in WWE, then added titles in Ring of Honor, New Japan, and AAA.
