San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is once again at the center of unwanted attention—this time for a video showing him driving at extreme speeds on public roads in California’s South Bay.

On Saturday, December 20, Aiyuk uploaded footage to his YouTube channel showing him behind the wheel of a Cadillac CT5-V, accelerating well above the posted speed limit.

In one clip, the speedometer climbs past 100 miles per hour on Tasman Drive in Santa Clara, a road with a 40 mph limit that runs adjacent to Levi’s Stadium. At one point in the video, Aiyuk appears to reach a top speed of 111 mph. Other segments show him pushing the car above 90 mph on nearby freeways.

The timing of the post raised eyebrows. According to SFGate, just two days earlier, Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Aiyuk had been “extremely distant” from the team following the knee injury that cut his 2024 season short.

Shortly after those comments, the San Francisco 49ers placed Aiyuk on a reserve list, formally ending his season and signaling a clear break between the player and the organization.

Aiyuk’s separation from the team has been building for months. Last offseason, he signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension that was set to kick in this year. However, the 49ers later voided millions in future guarantees tied to that deal.

Aiyuk chose not to file a grievance through the NFL Players Association, a decision that further accelerated the split. While he initially attended training camp and was praised for his presence, the wideout reportedly stopped showing up at the facility as his rehab neared a potential return.

The speeding video has drawn significant reaction online, with many commenters focusing less on football and more on safety. Several fans urged Aiyuk to slow down and questioned the decision to post footage of such risky behavior. Others expressed concern about his well-being as his professional future remains uncertain.

From a league standpoint, discipline is unclear. Historically, the NFL has not routinely punished players for speeding violations unless they result in accidents or injuries. Regardless, Aiyuk is widely expected to become a free agent and will need to re-establish his value while recovering from a major knee injury.
