Ahmad Hardy is recovering after being shot during a concert in Mississippi over the weekend.

According to ESPN, the standout Missouri running back reportedly suffered a gunshot wound early Sunday morning, May 10, while attending a concert in Laurel, Mississippi, not far from his hometown of Oma. School officials confirmed that Hardy underwent surgery shortly after the shooting and was later listed in stable condition.

Local authorities are currently investigating what led to the incident, though few details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been publicly released.

Missouri Athletics addressed the situation in a statement shared Monday, saying, “Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family, and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength, and support.”

Initial reports suggested that Hardy was shot in the leg. ESPN’s Pete Thamel later reported that the junior running back was alert and moving around Monday as doctors continue monitoring his recovery.

The injury comes at a difficult moment for one of the biggest rising stars in college football. Hardy exploded onto the national scene during the 2025 season after transferring from UL Monroe to Missouri, quickly becoming one of the SEC’s most productive offensive weapons.

He finished the year with 1,649 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, ranking second nationally among all FBS rushers while leading all Power Conference backs in rushing production.

Hardy’s breakout campaign also earned him first-team All-SEC honors and recognition as the SEC Newcomer of the Year. He was later named a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, which recognizes the top running back in college football.

After the season, Hardy chose to return to Missouri rather than enter the NFL Draft, despite reportedly drawing interest from other major programs via the transfer portal. His decision was viewed as a major win for head coach Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers, who are expected to lean heavily on Hardy again heading into the 2026 season.
