Comments from Abella Danger about Fernando Mendoza added an unexpected wrinkle to the post–national championship conversation this week, as the longtime Miami Hurricanes fan offered high praise for the newly crowned Heisman winner and his NFL upside.

In an interview with Vegas Sports Today (via Us Weekly), which came out on January 24, Danger was asked about speculation surrounding Mendoza’s pro future and the possibility that the Las Vegas Raiders could target him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Her assessment focused squarely on what she saw from him on the field. “He’s so quick and so powerful, and he’s so intentional with everything he does,” Danger said. “I hope he does [go to the Raiders]. I feel like the Raiders would be so lucky to have him.”

Danger added that she hopes Mendoza makes an immediate jump to the league, noting the buzz surrounding the quarterback following Indiana’s title run. “Hopefully he does [play his first season],” she said. “I know the world is just dying to get more of that kid. He’s so talented.”

Her comments landed after Danger went viral during the national championship game between Miami and Indiana at Hard Rock Stadium. ESPN cameras repeatedly showed her reactions in the stands as the Hurricanes battled the Hoosiers in a tight contest, with Miami ultimately falling 27–21.

Clips of Danger looking tense during the game spread rapidly online, and her emotional reaction after the final whistle—captured as fireworks went off behind her—quickly became meme fodder across social media.

“I hate this! I hate this,” Danger said at the stadium following the loss, later explaining that her frustration stemmed from seeing Miami’s players come up short after a season of work. As she exited, she maintained that the Hurricanes belonged on that stage, saying the game proved they were “the best of the best,” even in defeat.

While Danger’s presence drew attention during the broadcast, Mendoza’s response to the spotlight elsewhere has been notably measured. The 22-year-old quarterback declared for the 2026 NFL Draft shortly after Indiana’s championship win, describing his move to Bloomington as “a leap of faith” that led to a perfect season and a national title.

“It is only with your support and the glory of God that I am here today,” Mendoza said in his announcement, thanking his family, teammates, and coaches.

That grounded tone has followed him throughout his breakout year. Mendoza has consistently highlighted his close bond with his mother, Elsa, calling her “my why” during his Heisman Trophy speech as she continues to battle multiple sclerosis.

On the field, he delivered one of the most efficient seasons in recent college football history, leading Indiana to an undefeated run, a Big Ten championship, and its first national title.
