Aaron Rodgers appears to be getting closer to staying with the Pittsburgh Steelers after reports surfaced that the veteran quarterback is heading to Pittsburgh for meetings with the organization this weekend.
According to Fox News, the visit comes days after speculation linked Rodgers to the Arizona Cardinals, who were floated as a possible alternative if negotiations with Pittsburgh broke down. Instead, momentum now appears to be shifting back toward the Steelers.
Rodgers has not signed a contract yet, but discussions are clearly active. According to the outlet, money may be the final hurdle. The quarterback played the 2025 season on a one-year, $13.65 million deal and later received an unrestricted free-agent tender from Pittsburgh worth roughly $15.5 million for 2026.
Even at 42, Rodgers is coming off a solid season. In his first year with the Steelers after leaving the New York Jets, he threw for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns while helping Pittsburgh reach the playoffs with a 10-6 record.
The Steelers have also made it clear they want him back. Owner Art Rooney II recently said the team has stayed in regular contact with Rodgers throughout the offseason. “We’ve been in contact with Aaron on a regular basis,” Rooney said previously. “I think we will come to a conclusion here in the next few weeks.”
Rodgers, meanwhile, has avoided making any public commitment. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he said there were no deadlines forcing him into a decision and stressed that no formal offer had been finalized.
“There’s no contract offer or anything,” Rodgers said. “I’m a free agent.”
Meanwhile, Arizona’s quarterback room remains unsettled. The team also hired Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator, reuniting Rodgers with a coach he previously worked with during his time with the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets.
Still, Pittsburgh remains the clearest fit. The Steelers’ current quarterback depth chart includes Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and rookie Drew Allar, making Rodgers the obvious top option for a team trying to stay in playoff contention.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero recently suggested Pittsburgh’s offseason moves looked tailored toward Rodgers’ preferences, particularly along the offensive line and at receiver.
