Victor Wembanyama expressed his disappointment after a game-worn jersey he gifted to a young fan after a game had already been listed for sale online.

Following the San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets game on Dec. 27, Wemby noticed a young fan in the stands asking to swap jerseys with him. The adorable moment went viral on social media, with many making light of the absurd size difference of the jerseys considering Wemby is over 7 feet tall.

Less than a month later, the game-worn jersey has been listed for sale via the auction website Goldin with a starting price of $10,000.

"Wembanyama, who has swiftly developed a reputation as a man of the people due to positive interactions with fans, immediately stripped this offered San Antonio Spurs City Edition basketball jersey from his back and exchanged it with the young fan, with the two even standing side by side for a quick photo op," the listing says.

The French center has since caught wind of the auction and offered a simple response: a crying emoji.

While it's a shame that the jersey went up for sale so quickly—especially because it could be quite the memento for the young fan—perhaps it will help with a needed expense like college tuition.

Wemby was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2024 after his historic first season in the league, so the jersey could be worth even more money down the line.
