Terry Kennedy has been released from prison on parole after serving time for an assault that resulted in the death of another skateboarder.
According to TMZ, Kennedy was released on New Year’s Eve (December 31). The 40-year-old skateboarder, who at one point was sponsored by Baker Skateboards and Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club, was arrested in July 2021 for assaulting 23-year-old skateboarder Josiah Kassahun, who later died from his injuries.
Kennedy was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery in 2022, and was sentenced to two terms of five years in prison the following year, which he served consecutively at 50 percent. He was initially facing a first-degree murder charge, of which he was acquitted.
He’s on parole until June 30, 2026, which was his originally scheduled release date. His release comes not long after the Illinois Department of Corrections confirmed that the skateboarder would be released early due to sentence credit that shortened his original term.
Before his arrest, the Long Beach-native grew a reputation for his technical ability and colorful personality, often going by the nickname 'Compton Ass Terry.'
Additionally, Kennedy co-founded the clothing brand Fly Society. He made several appearances in popular MTV series including Viva La Bam, Bam’s Unholy Union, and Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory. He also made appearances in the Skate series of games.
