During an interview on the Tampa Bay Lightning podcast The Block Party, 25-year-old NHL rookie Curtis Douglas revealed that his jersey number is partially a tribute to the rapper 42 Dugg.
At around the 22:40 mark of the podcast, as seen above, it was highlighted to Douglas that only six other players in the history of the Tampa Bay Lightning had the jersey number 42. He confessed that he didn’t know about that, and revealed the real reason behind his choice of number.
“To be honest, the reason I picked 42… there’s a rapper named 42 Dugg,” he shared. “And so I’m 42 and I’m Doug. So I think it’s pretty funny that I’m 42 Doug.” Asked for more information about the Detroit rapper, he added that he didn’t know where he was from.
In a post shared on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday (Oct. 29), Dugg acknowledged the tip of the hat by sharing a post from br_openice that highlighted why Douglas picked his jersey number.
The 6-foot-9 hockey player made his NHL career debut earlier this month and made his presence known immediately by getting into a fight with Ottawa Senators player Kurtis MacDermid less than 3 minutes into the game. Earlier that same week, he was claimed by the Lightning off the Utah Mammoth’s waivers.
