NFL Star's Ex-Wife Fires Back at Celebration Over Timing of Her Divorce: 'This Is Deplorable'

Rashawn Slater finalized his divorce from Stassney Brown earlier this year, and some suggested it was "good timing" to sort it before his huge new contract.

NFL star Rashawn Slater's ex-wife, Stassney Brown, has shut down posts that congratulated him for signing his $144 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers after finalizing their divorce.

Shortly after the news of Slater's huge contract extension broke, NFL news aggregator Dov Kleiman called the move "legendary" in a post on X.

"Chargers star Rashawn Slater finalized his divorce from his wife recently," Kleiman wrote. "Today, Slater signed a $144 million contract extension with the team, including a $29 million signing bonus. Talk about good timing. ... A historic deal where his ex-wife won't see a dime of it."

Brown, who is not particularly active on social media but has previously shared posts celebrating her now-ex's performance with the Chargers, shut down Kleinman's choice to make Slater's contract extension about her.

"This is deplorable," she wrote. "I hold nothing but support for Rashawn. His contract is not about me. I think we should focus on what's most important here, and that is his career and his success. Please stop including me in this narrative. He deserves his moment."

Kleiman responded to her criticism by suggested that he wasn't making the contract extension about her, and saying that he didn't mention her name — despite including a photo of her in two tweets.

"It wasn't about you," he wrote. "It was about Rashawn keeping the money that he worked hard for. I didn't mention your name. So you decide to draw more attention to yourself? But also claiming he deserves his moment."

As reported by ESPN on Sunday (July 27), Slater and the Chargers agreed to a four-year $114 million contract extension with $92 million guaranteed. This will make him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. The deal includes a $29 million signing bonus.
