After the Lakers beat the Pelicans Friday night, LeBron James and Anthony Davis reportedly met for a postgame dinner.
Yahoo! Sports reports that the two linked in Los Angeles, further fueling rumors that Davis is looking to trade to the Lakers. After the game, Davis told Yahoo!, "It's cool to have fans everywhere you go, but my job is about the Pelicans right now." Either the two were looking to have a laugh about the situation, or there's more to the rumors than either of them are letting on.
LeBron also spoke with reporters following the game and basically explained that of course he'd want to team up with Davis: Who wouldn't want to team up with any great player?
"Ask me if I'd like to play with Jimmy Butler. Say it right now," James said. "Ask me about Kyrie Irving, Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. Ask me about [Joel] Embiid, Ben Simmons. Go ahead, all of them. Luka Doncic. Ask me right now. Come on, guys, this is not rocket science. These are great players. Absolutely. I would love to play with a lot of great players. That is just who I am. People get caught up in bunches sometimes when they wish they could control what you say, and they can't control me, at all. And I play by the rules."
LeBron was recently accused by small-market team managers of tampering because he said he would like to play with a superstar like Davis. LeBron previously said that Davis joining the Lakers would be "amazing" and "incredible." These managers believe that his praise of Davis destabilizes the opposition, according to ESPN.
On Friday night's episode of HBO's The Shop, LeBron talked with Maverick Carter, Todd Gurley, and Ice Cube about some of the differences between the NFL and the NBA. "In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality," James said in the episode. "And it’s like, 'This is my team. You do what the fuck I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.'"
